Privacy Policy

Claparonis builds two products: Claparonis for Slack (a peer recognition bot) and Claps for iOS (a fun avatar clapping app). We take your privacy seriously and collect as little data as possible to make each product work.
Claparonis for Slack
What We Store
- Clap records: When someone gives a clap, we store the workspace ID, channel ID, the Slack user IDs of the giver and receiver, the recognition message, and a timestamp. This powers leaderboards and clap counts.
- Workspace info: We store your Slack workspace (team) ID and the bot OAuth token provided by Slack during installation. This is required for the app to function in your workspace.
- Workspace tier: If you upgrade, we store which pricing tier your workspace is on.
What We Do NOT Store
- We do not store or read private messages, DMs, or any messages that do not contain a clap trigger word.
- We do not store user profiles, email addresses, or real names.
- We do not store message history or channel conversations.
- We do not sell, share, or transfer any data to third parties.
Slack Permissions
Claparonis requests the following Slack scopes:
- commands — To register slash commands (/clap, /leaderboard, /help, /registerkey).
- chat:write — To post celebration messages in channels.
- channels:history and groups:history — To read messages in channels the app has been added to, so it can detect clap trigger words. The app only processes messages that match its trigger patterns and ignores everything else.
- users:read — To fetch profile pictures for celebration messages and check if users are still active.
Data Storage & Security
All Slack data is stored in a secured Amazon Aurora database hosted in AWS (Tokyo region). Access is restricted via AWS IAM policies and Secrets Manager. All traffic is encrypted via HTTPS.
Data Retention
Clap records are retained indefinitely to support all-time leaderboards. If you uninstall Claparonis from your workspace, you can request deletion of all your workspace data by emailing us.
Claps for iOS
Device Permissions
- Camera — Used only to take a selfie for avatar creation. Camera access is optional; you can use a photo from your library instead.
- Photo Library — Used only to select an existing photo for avatar creation.
Avatar Creation & AI Processing
When you create a custom avatar, your photo is sent to our server (hosted on AWS), which forwards it to OpenAI to generate a cartoon version. The photo is used solely for image generation and is not stored on our servers after processing is complete. OpenAI’s use of the image is governed by OpenAI’s usage policies.
Device Identifier
We send your device’s vendor identifier (a non-permanent ID unique to your device) with avatar generation requests solely for rate limiting. We do not use it for tracking or advertising.
Local Data Storage
All generated avatars, favorites, and preferences are stored locally on your device. We do not have access to this data. Deleting the app removes all locally stored data permanently.
What We Do NOT Collect
- No analytics, crash reports, or usage tracking of any kind.
- No advertising identifiers or ad network SDKs.
- No user accounts, email addresses, or personal information.
- No data is synced to the cloud beyond the one-time avatar generation request.
Website Analytics
Our website (claparonis.com) uses Google Analytics to understand traffic patterns. No analytics are collected from within the Slack bot or the iOS app.
